Briançon and the Vauban city
Come and stroll through the beautiful medieval wall city of Briançon.
As you sit at the terrace of a café in the Place des armes square, enjoy the unique experience of the sound of the fountains and of the water running down the central gully. This medieval town will delight you by the colourful frontage of is houses, its sundials, steep streets and its collegiate church. Today, Briançon delights its visitors, but let’s not forget that this town (the highest in Europe), perched on a rocky outcrop at 1326m, is a unique example for mountain fortifications. Protected by its battlements and forts, Briançon was impregnable and is an example of Vauban’s military genius.
